Name: Kisaragi Saemon (如月 左衛門)
Fandom: Basilisk
Gender: Male
Time Period: Ep 21/Chapter 29 (highlight for spoiler: While under the disguise of Yakushiji Tenzen, Saemon had an unfortunate encounter with the real Tenzen, who he assumed was dead. Tenzen, disguised as a samurai, brought some men with him and revealed to Saemon that he heard Tenzen was an immortal ninja and wanted to test that out for himself. Let’s just say, that in the end it didn’t work out well at all.)

Character in depth
Powers/abilities: Saemon has a couple of skills that render him a master of stealth. Not only can he imitate the voice of another person, he can also assume their physical appearance. To do the latter, Saemon creates a mound of mud or soft clay, presses a person’s face into it to form a mold and inserts his own face into it. To those without superior senses to break through the deceit, this is a peerless disguise (Click here for picture).He usually takes the person’s clothes as well. Moreover, Saemon is a skillful fighter and weapon user, even able to defend himself when outnumbered.
Weakness: He may be a professional but Saemon still a mortal. One blunder and he is highly capable of getting killed. Also, there is a rare side of Saemon's personality that a few see. As the older brother of Kouga member Okoi, Saemon expresses kindness towards her and speaks highly of her. In fact, he doesn’t like harming woman or seeing them harmed, but if duty asks it, he does not oppose. To him, the fighting between the Iga-Kouga enmities is like hell and the deaths of both man and female is only fate. But maybe, just maybe, deep in his heart, there might be a slight tinge of compassion. (highlight for spoiler: When he kills Hoturubi in the anime, he took the time to apparently "pray" for her and it may be surmised that he felt apologetic. In the manga, he made the same pose but that’s when he quotes, perhaps solemnly, about not liking to kill women and about war and that Hoturubi should just give in to her fate. So it could be a prayer or a victory pose?)
Describe your characters personality (in detail): A clever and skilled ninja, Kisaragi has a complex personality. Saemon has an air of control around him and mostly appears detached in both tension and peace. To "understand" him is to watch Saemon throughout the series as he unveils his fervent bound-to-duty feelings, overconfidence in his skills, and rigid views of war.
Before he realized that the Iga-Kouga truce had been broken, Saemon seemed to have a latent distrust towards the Iga. He became very curious after Iga rudely infiltrated the Kouga Manji Valley during Gennosuke’s absence, and with Gyobu, he'd eagerly monitor the Iga's movements to search for an answer. Revelation occurred to him when he witnessed Okoi's death; disguised as Yashamaru, he was with his sister in her final moments. After that, he devoted himself to the war to ensure Kouga’s win by any means necessary. He even smiled wickedly at Iga’s first blunder against Gennosuke.
Saemon is also terribly cunning; a vintage actor, whatever shape he assumes, he sees his goal to the end. It’s like he changes along with his body. Fighting the Iga while using his signature technique, he elicits their fiercest emotions and lures them into a trap like a cold-blooded man. (highlight for spoiler: Saemon's guile has facilitated the deaths of Iga’s Koshirou, Akeginu and Hoturubi).
