TEXT
It was dusk; in Violet City, Saemon prepared to call it a day at the Pokecenter. How long would this "new life" continue?

"I've been in this town for a while. I was told that the first gym trainer was here, and that I'll have to prepare considerably. I also gained work. Is this how things should be?"

Saemon paused to contemplate his next words, and his new life as a Pokemon trainer. It was a subject that has been weighting heavy upon him, a man who has came from the bloody lands of Feudal Japan and ninja war.

"I caught a new pokemon: a black bird. I was told that when it grows, it will get a star shape on its face. Should call it "Hoshi"?

Koga's wicked Chameleon ninja had been roaming Cherrygrove and its outskirts for a while. The next destination was to the north where Violet City was, but there was a little hesitation. Saemon found no reason to rush; furthermore, according to a citizen in town, it would take a week to reach.

(All this to seek badges in this world). Many thoughts occurred. In this different world space, things were more serene compared to warring Japan, plus many people practiced the custom of training animals for various reasons. Maybe it still bothered him that he may stay here for quite a while, potentially years, or even forever?

One thing's for sure, he should try to get a fishing rod. But that seemed very far.

"I should I say this. To anyone out there...shortly before coming here, have any of you been fighting? Are you from a place that has been in war?"

VOICE or ACTION

It was a lovely sunny day! Someone's PokeGear was on.

"Psh-yaaaa!"

A loud screech raised through the air, and down went a bird pokemon covered in wounds. It crashed onto the grass; approaching it was a black pokemon, grinning like a devil as it reached out towards the bird with sharp white claws.

"Wait." At the voice, Manji the Sneasel didn't take another step and turned his head. Saemon appeared behind Manji and looked down at the injured Pidgey. His eyes were narrow, frigid, devoid of mercy. In one hand, he held an item; with a swing of that one hand, the item was thrown and the Pidgey disappeared in a flash of red light.

Later on, Saemon and Manji finally found themselves at the threshold to a new town. Just standing ahead of them were buildings, and even further ahead was perhaps the most interesting sight. Manji scampered ahead to the sparkling ocean, which stuck out the most.

"Hey!" Saemon reached out with a hand and then went after his pokemon. The little pest carried his PokeGear!

After days of training and traveling, leaving a trail of beaten Pidgey and Rattata behind them, Saemon and Manji made it to Cherrygrove.

Shinobi knew how to remain patient and gather any necessity for their own progress, whether it was tools or knowledge. For Saemon, his first goal was to get used to the new land called "Johto" that he was in. It looked like he had plenty of time to waste too. He didn't want to transverse outside of his mother's house nor New Bark Town without a hint on what he had to do and what he would expect. It also gave him the chance to understand how to use the PokeGear.

But today was a good day for him to enter Route 29. According to others, CherryGrove was the next town due west. As long as he had Manji on his side, he would be safe. So, he quietly left New Bark with his backpack, giving his foreign home town a short emotionless glance before entering the fields of tall grass.

Moving forward, it wouldn't be long until something jumped out into his view. The grass rustled, then a small blue animal appeared. He pulled a foot back as tension surged up his body. Instincts told him to reach into his robe for a weapon, but his hand felt nothing. No, he didn't have any weapons, but...

"Manji."

The Sneasel just placed the PokeGear, set to video, onto the trunk of a tree than rushed back to his owner. Now the device was sending footage of Saemon,and his pokemon Manji facing off against a Rattata.

The mouse pokemon hissed threateningly. However, like a predator to prey, Sneasel wouldn't break its stare from the mouse. Its mouth folded into a smirk.

[ PokeGear Connect’s video mode turns on, and at a distance was the image of a man reclined on a tree trunk. His arms lay over his lap and his eyes were closed shut as if sleeping. Shortly after the Gear relays this, there is a titter in the audio. ]

"Hmm...?"

[ On his featureless looking face, the man's eyebrows arched in a way that made him look like he was either surprised or puzzled. Since it is Kisaragi Saemon, a master in subtlety, his mood was difficult to determine. ]

"So, you're using that 'show item' on me again?"

[ The image of Saemon disappeared briefly, replaced by the impish smirk of Manji, his Sneasel. It was the Koga's pokemon that was holding the PokeGear. ]

"Why show? I don't think there's anything interesting about me laying here."

"Sneee!"

[ Manji gave out a loud hiss, and Saemon's image returned. The PokeGear was directed back at the trainer. Saemon now looked to be in a thinking posture, his hand cupping his chin. ]
